The Purpose of Tests
The Purpose of Assessments
NES uses a variety of assessments to see how individual students and the school as a whole are doing. Some tests measure how students are doing against a grade level standard. Other tests indicate haw a student is doing in relation to others in his/her grade or group. The school uses results to modify its instruction for the child and as an indicator for how it can improve its program and practices.
Achievement Testing
During the school year, students are given a variety of achievement tests. Some assessments are local assessments used as part of our school improvement process and to help teachers plan instruction. SBAC is an achievement test that replaces the NECAP assessment. It will be used to measure your child’s achievement level and to gauge the effectiveness of school programs. Achievement testing measures a child's performance, on a given day, in specific areas such as reading, math, and science. Scores are reported to the school in a way that compares a child's performance and the groups' performance with other children of the same grade throughout the state.
